What they’re saying about
From the chapter Hooked
I love how Sandra shares her truth in her story and how her passion to support others in their journey with God shines through her writing. Where Sandra writes about her hidden pain resonated with me. Walking around with this undercurrent of pain and letting that drive us day to day is where I know God can meet us to bring us fully through it. Thank you, Sandra, for sharing your story that encourages and supports us taking the steps to freedom of getting fully unhooked!
From the chapter Reconnecting with God
Thank you for that beautiful prayer in your chapter about repentance and forgiveness in reconnecting with God.

From the chapter Controlling Nature
I felt you were telling my story, as I'm sure, many women out there will relate to as well. Pointing out "fear, safety, security, and unity," as the reason we behave the way we do. You point to God, He is in control, that takes a huge burden off of our shoulders, "unhooks" us "He will lead and guide each of us". This chapter served as a mentor to the reader. Just like the class you were led to, You served as the person that went before us, comes out the other side wiser more in love with Christ. Leading us through appropriate and helpful scriptures to wrap around our heart and soul giving us comfort. So we can be unhooked from the burdens that are His and His only. Freeing us up to be able to love more freely.

From the chapters My Story & Father Disconnect
Although this book is a personal reflection of Sandra’s experience with the Lord, I was able to connect with the words she spoke about not only by the choice of words but by the Holy Spirit who is always working! When I read the words “I thought God was a man who sat on a throne up in the clouds” it stung me in the gut! This book is going to be a wakeup call and a path for the feet of those seeking deeper intimacy and freedom with and by the Lord. I can’t wait to read the rest!

This is so REAL! I love the interactiveness - It made me stop and think about the questions you are asking. I was able to really search for the answers in my heart and soul because this book is such "a safe place". There is no pressure with someone asking a question and waiting for an answer - which gave me calmness in order to take my time and answer truthfully. It made me rethink situations and how I reacted (good and bad) and come to terms with the decisions I had made at the time. Not that I can change them, but I can move forward with peace.

Reading the first chapter of the book is like taking an honest look in the mirror, which made me pause and reflect: 'Wait, do I not trust God to help me either?' The way the hidden pain of being hooked was described made me realize I had some work to do with the Holy Spirit. Also, the description of the Holy Spirit's work in revealing mindsets and beliefs that had her hooked resonated with how He has revealed things to me in the past. It can be scary to open up the closed doors of our hearts and minds to let the Holy Spirit in to heal us and give us truth, but this chapter captures how God is truly faithful to take us on this journey in ways personal to us once we realize what we are missing out on and ask Him for help.
To another potential reader, I would say: Let Sandra's words wash over you and invite the Holy Spirit to bring conviction as you read so you can be honest with yourself and let the Lord hold up the mirror to the things holding you back.
From the chapter Why the Holy Spirit
One thing that resonated with me was the point that it can be hard for us to grasp that God is a spirit and His ways are not our ways. Therefore, we absolutely need the leading of the Holy Spirit to change and to get unhooked. It takes complete reliance on Him to get off the hamster wheel of being 'led by our consuming, disheartening, and overwhelming circumstances' and live by faith. This reminded me of when the Lord gave me scripture one day in Amos, specifically Amos 2:16, where he pointed out my own self-reliance to help myself. It was jarring scripture, but it's a reality when you don't entrust parts of your heart and life to the Lord, which Sandra's description of the Holy Spirit in this chapter brought back to my mind.
To another potential reader, I would say: We all have 'DIY projects,' as Sandra would say, where we try to do things in our strength apart from God, often without even realizing it! Reflecting on the prompts in this chapter, I realized that in the transition in life I'm in right now, I'm not really listening to the Holy Spirit daily as I should, but looking to Him for bigger nuggets of revelation and direction. In reality, half of the frustration I'm feeling right now in this life transition is probably because I haven't been led by the Spirit daily or at least been as sensitive as I should be.
I'm looking forward to your book release and reading the whole book!
